Since 1993, the current administration, under the leadership of Mayor Chris Bollwage, has worked to jumpstart $1 billion dollars in economic development that has created thousands of new jobs and brought brand name retailers back to the City.

Through this economic boom and with the success of the City’s award-winning Urban Enterprise Zone Program (UEZ), which offers the discounted three percent sales tax, our Historic Midtown District has been able to revitalize our area as well as offer businesses growth incentives.

This year our Historic Midtown District will undergo extensive streetscape improvements that will include: new side walks, trash receptacles, new curbing, more trees, and much more.

The Historic Midtown SID will also launch a new Sign & Façade Program that will allow businesses to receive matching loans to improve their store fronts. This program will compliment the dozens of business related program the Elizabeth Development Company (EDC), the UEZ administrating agency, currently offers businesses throughout the City.
