The Arts and Music reception is hosted annually by the Midtown SID and the Altenburg Piano House. Held at the Altenburg Piano House on East Jersey Street, this event recognizes the talents of local artists and musicians in Elizabeth and surrounding areas.

SPRING EGG HUNT

Date: To Be Determined Location: First Presbyterian Church

The Spring Egg Hunt takes place each year on the front lawn of the Historic First Presbyterian Church on Broad Street one Saturday before Easter. The event draws families from all over Elizabeth and surrounding towns so that their children are able to participate in several egg hunts throughout the morning. Between egg hunts, children are able to have their face painted, take pictures with the Easter Bunny, and dance to festive music before searching the lawn for eggs filled with a variety of sweets and goodies.

ANNUAL MEETING

Date: Wednesday, June 27th at 3:30 PM Location: SID Office, 1139 East Jersey Street, Suite 616, Elizabeth
The Annual Board Meeting occurs annually on the last Wednesday in June. The meeting is open to all merchants and property owners to attend and summarizes the SID’s activity during the first half of the year, and its plans for the remainder of the year. Any merchants and property owners in attendance are able to discuss and address any of their questions or concerns.
8th ANNUAL MIDTOWN CAR & BIKE SHOW

Date: Saturday, August 17th from 11 AM – 4 PM Location: In front of City Hall - 50 Winfield Scott Plaza

The Annual Midtown Car Show is held every August. The event brings participants and spectators from all over New Jersey, as well as other parts of the Tri-State Area. The event continues to grow each year with the continued support of local car owners and sponsoring companies. During the event, participants and visitors enjoy great food, exciting entertainment, a variety of vendors, and participate in activities such as a hula hoop contest and a fan belt toss. At the end, trophies are awarded to participants in areas such as Mayor’s Choice, Best Paint, Best Interior, and People’s Choice among many other categories.

HISTORICAL REENACTMENT

Date: Saturday, October 27th from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM Location: First Presbyterian Church, 42 Broad Street, Elizabeth, NJ
The Historic Reenactment occurs each year on the front lawn and cemetery of the Historic First Presbyterian Church on Broad Street. Re-enactors of various from all over the State come to Midtown Elizabeth to recreate a Revolutionary War tactical battle, which included period clothing and weapons. The troops set up camp on the front lawn of the Church, while the women spun and knitted and the children played in the yard. A doctor and his assistant set up their station to teach visitors about revolutionary medicine, and aid the men who were wounded in battle. Families from all over Union County gathered outside the Church and along the sidewalk to watch as the British Troops and the American Troops reenacted the tactical battle. During the event, visitors are also able to take tours of the Presbyterian Church’s museum and historical cemetery.

HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING

Date: Thursday, November 29th at 5:30 - 7PM Location: Pedestrian Plaza (Train Station Plaza on West Grand Street) (Rain Date: To Be Determined)
The Holiday Tree Lighting takes place each December in the Train Station Pedestrian Plaza on West Grand Street. The fire department joins the Midtown SID to bring Santa down from high atop the fire truck ladder to light the Midtown Holiday Tree. Children from all over Elizabeth eagerly wait to see Santa and receive a gift and put in their last minute Christmas requests while festive music plays kicking off the holiday season.
Councilwoman Patricia Perkins-Auguste, Mayor Chris Bollwage, and the Midtown SID invite you to partake in this event which is sponsored by 20th Legislative District Office (Senator Raymond J Lesniak, Assemblywoman Annette Quijano, and Assemblyman Joseph Cryan) and Waste Management.
HOLIDAY AWARDS DINNER

Date: Thursday, December 6th at 6:00 PM Location: To Be Determined
Each year the Midtown SID takes time to honor those who offer a helping hand to the SID throughout the year in order to create a safe and flourishing business district. The efforts of the police officers, merchants, and City officials are recognized annually at the Holiday Awards Dinner with the presentation of the prestigious Crystal Awards for Outstanding Service.
