Check out our popular downtown promotional events listed below.   MERCHANT WORKSHOPS Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM Date: Monday, June 8, 2010 from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM Date: Tuesday, November 9, 2010 from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM Location: SID Office, 1139 East Jersey Street, Suite 616, Elizabeth The Midtown SID host quarterly Merchant Workshops throughout the year. These workshops enable merchants and property owners to discuss any questions or concerns they may have with the SID staff and members of the SID Board of Directors, as well as with City officials, members of Elizabeth Development Company, and representatives from the Elizabeth Police Department. In addition, merchants and property owners are able to receive information regarding the many City and SID programs that are available to them, including the Merchant Parking Program, Power Washing Grant Program, and Sign and Façade Program. The tentative dates for the 2009 Merchant Workshops are as follows:   ARTS & MUSIC Date: Thursday April 29, 2010 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Location: Altenburg Piano House The Arts and Music reception is hosted annually by the Midtown SID and the Altenburg Piano House. Held at the Altenburg Piano House on East Jersey Street, this event recognizes the talents of local artists and musicians in Elizabeth and surrounding areas. Arts & Music Flyer   SPRING EGG HUNT Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 12:00 Noon - 2:00 PM Location: First Presbyterian Church (Rain Date: Saturday, April 3rd) The Spring Egg Hunt takes place each year on the front lawn of the Historic First Presbyterian Church on Broad Street one Saturday before Easter. The event draws families from all over Elizabeth and surrounding towns so that their children are able to participate in several egg hunts throughout the morning. Between egg hunts, children are able to have their face painted, take pictures with the Easter Bunny, and dance to festive music before searching the lawn for eggs filled with a variety of sweets and goodies.   SIDEWALK SALE The Midtown SID organizes four sidewalk sales throughout the year, which gives merchants and shoppers the ability to take advantage of the warm weather and peruse the racks while still enjoying a beautiful day outside. Sidewalk sales will take place this year on the following dates: Thursday, May 20th - Saturday, May 22nd Thursday, June 24th - Saturday, June 26th Thursday, August 19th - Saturday, August 21st Thursday, October 7th - Saturday, October 9th (Rain Dates for the Sidewalk Sales will always be the following Monday)   ANNUAL MEETING Date: Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 5:30 PM Location: SID Office, 1139 East Jersey Street, Suite 616, Elizabeth The Annual Board Meeting occurs annually on the last Wednesday in June. The meeting is open to all merchants and property owners to attend and summarizes the SID’s activity during the first half of the year, and its plans for the remainder of the year. Any merchants and property owners in attendance are able to discuss and address any of their questions or concerns.   CAR SHOW Date: Saturday, August 21, 2009 from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM Location: TBA Registration: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM Registration Cost: Pre Registration is $ 10.00 Day of Registration is $ 15.00 (Rain Date: Sunday, August 22nd) The Annual Midtown Car Show is held every August, this year's location TBA. The event brings participants and spectators from all over New Jersey, as well as other parts of the Tri-State Area. The event continues to grow each year with the continued support of local car owners and sponsoring companies. During the event, participants and visitors enjoy great food, exciting entertainment, a variety of vendors, and participate in activities such as a hula hoop contest and a fan belt toss. At the end, trophies are awarded to participants in areas such as Mayor’s Choice, Best Paint, Best Interior, and People’s Choice among many other categories. Pre Registration Form   HISTORICAL REENACTMENT Date: Saturday, June 12, 2010 from 11 AM – 3 PM Location: First Presbyterian Church (Rain Date: Saturday, June 19th) The Historic Reenactment occurs each year on the front lawn and cemetery of the Historic First Presbyterian Church on Broad Street. Re-enactors of various from all over the State come to Midtown Elizabeth to recreate a Revolutionary War tactical battle, which included period clothing and weapons. The troops set up camp on the front lawn of the Church, while the women spun and knitted and the children played in the yard. A doctor and his assistant set up their station to teach visitors about revolutionary medicine, and aid the men who were wounded in battle. Families from all over Union County gathered outside the Church and along the sidewalk to watch as the British Troops and the American Troops reenacted the tactical battle. During the event, visitors are also able to take tours of the Presbyterian Church’s museum and historical cemetery. Historical Reenactment Flyer   HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING Date: Wednesday, December 5, 2010 at 5:30 PM Location: Pedestrian Plaza (Train Station Plaza on West Grand Street) (Rain Date: TBA) The Holiday Tree Lighting takes place each December in the Train Station Pedestrian Plaza on West Grand Street. The fire department joins the Midtown SID to bring Santa down from high atop the fire truck ladder to light the Midtown Holiday Tree. Children from all over Elizabeth eagerly wait to see Santa and receive a gift and put in their last minute Christmas requests while festive music plays kicking off the holiday season.   HOLIDAY AWARDS DINNER Date: Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 6:30 PM Location: TBA Each year the Midtown SID takes time to honor those who offer a helping hand to the SID throughout the year in order to create a safe and flourishing business district. The efforts of the police officers, merchants, and City officials are recognized annually at the Holiday Awards Dinner with the presentation of the prestigious Crystal Awards for Outstanding Service.
